| This piece was shown at the Viewpoint Gallery at
Plymouth College of Art and Design from February to March 2007. I created
an art based company that is completely fictional. This gave me the opportunity
to explore the effect that interacting with a company has on those who do
so. It has also allowed me to explore the effect that their interaction
with the project has had on the company itself.
In doing this I had to play the role of two characters, a boss and a temp worker. These characters were roughly developed prior to being performed and then further developed during the project to fit in with how it was going. When I held ‘interviews’, which I had advertised throughout the college, I performed the role of the boss character. I performed the temp character for ‘PR’ events that I staged throughout the project. The main intention of creating this company was to make a corporate video (which can be seen by clicking on the laptop) to show in the office installation. Everything I did was documented on film. This video references a recognisable office aesthetic, but is made far more amusing in the way that throughout the piece, the characters I was playing avoided questions about what we ‘do’ by using business jargon and psychobabble. The finished piece is intended to look authentic, despite being completely fictional. |
