Like
all of the best projects, Liono started out as a joke.
As teenagers, my younger brother Alan and I used to
make tapes of experimental noise and leave humorous
posters around our village advertising the cult of
Liono. This developed in 2006 into a satirical sonic
art project with my friend the DJ Tim Hopkin. We produced
some albums and I performed a number of live performance
sets based on the tracks we had recorded. It received
rave reviews from the sound art scene in Plymouth
who we had initially set out to ridicule, finally
staging a controversial performance in Plymouth Arts
Centre, which pushed the boundaries of good taste
so far that Liono could sink no further… |
